On Wednesday, the House of Representatives impeached Trump with the support from ten GOP. While left-leaning articles highlight that other world leaders have been banned in the past from running for office, right-leaning articles highlight that although Trump has one week left in office, supporters of the impeachment say he is too dangerous to stay in office a minute longer.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that other world leaders in the past have been banned from running for office, from Fernando Collor de Mello, president of Brazil, to Ehud Olmert, prime minister of Israel. Harvard political scientist Steven Levitsky said that in some instances in Latin America, imposing “legitimate bans on major populist figures for anti-democratic behavior didn’t work well,” but also allowing leaders who commit abuses to run again is also problematic.

The Hill published a centrist article reporting that this is the first time in each country’s history that a president has been impeached twice in one term. Representative Tom Rice was the most conservative of those who supported the effort to impeach Trump.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that although Trump has one week left in office, supporters of the impeachment say Trump is too dangerous to stay in office a minute longer. However, most Republicans voted against the rushed impeachment because Trump is already exiting office.
