U.S. President Donald Trump has accused predecessor Barack Obama of seeking damage to his presidency, referring to it as “Obamagate.” While left-leaning articles highlight that Trump is using new declassified information regarding the Michael Flynn case to cover up recent political damage, right-leaning articles highlight that Democrats will gaslight the public by focusing on accusations against president Obama.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that on Thursday, Richard Grenell, acting director of national intelligence, arrived at the Justice Department's Headquarters with a list he had declassified of former Obama administration officials who Trump and his allies have used to claim that Barack Obama, Biden and their appointees deliberately sought to sabotage the incoming Trump administration. The article notes that Trump is using this information to cover up political damage for his management of the coronavirus pandemic and to rewrite the history of the Russia investigation.

Reuters published a centrist article reporting that Trump tweeted an article from a conservative writer alleging that, following a meeting in the month Trump took office, former FBI director James Comey withheld information from Trump, which Trump called “OBAMAGATE.” “Obamagate” is a play on the word Watergate, a Nixon presidency scandal, and centers largely on an FBI investigation into Russian interference in the November 2016 election.

New York Post published a right-leaning article highlighting that Democrats and media allies will spend the next few months gaslighting the public by focusing on the most feverish accusations against President Barack Obama. The article states that members of the Obama administration repeatedly unmasked Trump’s allies and that the FBI railroaded Michael Flynn.
