President Trump spoke on Monday to over 100,000 Indians at a rally in Ahmedabad, India. While left-leaning articles highlight Trump’s neglect to condemn Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his recent actions, right-leaning articles highlight the warm welcome Trump received in India.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post reports that President Trump praised India’s unity and tolerance, offering no critique of recent discriminatory actions by Modi and his government over its crackdown in Kashmir and Hindu nationalism. The article called the president’s trip “long on symbolism and short on substance,” although stated that Trump announced new military sales.

NPR published a centrist article highlighting that there are shared values and ideals between Prime Minister Modi and Trump as nationalists who discriminate against minorities. The article also notes that Trump entered the world’s biggest cricket stadium for his rally, addressing one of the biggest crowds of his presidency today and entering to the song “Macho Man.”

A right-leaning article by Fox News reports that the president was met with a “raucous ovation” by the crowd in India, where he declared America’s love for India and solidarity with its people. Trump also spoke that both countries wanted to combat radical Islamic terrorism and closed with a message of positivity and a bright future.
