On Monday, President Donald Trump said he will wait until next month to take action on TikTok, giving time for companies like Microsoft to purchase the video sharing app. While left-leaning articles highlight that Microsoft tried to salvage the deal to buy Tik Tok and appease Trump, right-leaning articles highlight that Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton warned that Tik Tok is stealing data.

A left-leaning article by Bloomberg highlights that in a bid to salvage a deal for the U.S. operations of TikTok, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella spoke with President Trump over the phone about how to secure the administration’s blessing to buy the app. If the deal goes through, it would mark a dramatic intervention by the U.S. government in private enterprise, handing Microsoft a much more prominent role in social media and online advertising.

USA Today published a centrist article reporting that Trump also said a portion of the money from the sale of TikTok should go to the U.S. Treasury because “we’re making it possible” for the deal to happen. Microsoft said it is committed to acquiring Tik Tok subject to a complete security review.

Fox Business published a right-leaning article highlighting that Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton warned that on the surface, TikTok “seems harmless,” but really it is a “Trojan horse on your phone,” stealing all your data. President Trump is expected to make an announcement as early as Monday regarding how a TikTok-Microsoft deal would proceed.
