On Friday, Trump said he was being sarcastic when he previously remarked that injecting disinfectant into the lungs of sick coronavirus patients could cure them of the disease. Left-leaning articles highlight that the company that produces Lysol responded to Trump’s statement, while right-leaning articles highlight that the media took Trump’s words out of context.
CNN published a left-leaning article highlighting that Trump’s comments led the Reckitt Benckiser Group, which produces Lysol, to flatly announce on its website that “under no circumstance” should disinfectant be administered into the human body. Trump also questioned if hitting “the body with a tremendous...very powerful light” would eradicate the coronavirus.
A centrist article by The Hill highlights that Fox News medical contributor and doctor Marc Siegal on Friday knocked President Trump’s controversial comments about disinfectant possibly being used to treat coronavirus patients by saying that “the president is not a physician.” Siegal also noted that he thought Trump was referring to the virus being able to be easily killed on surfaces with disinfectant.
A right-leaning article by Fox News reports that White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in a statement that the media irresponsibly took President Trump out of context and ran with negative headlines. The article states that Trump’s comments made clear that he was not giving a definitive recommendation and that “medical doctors” should be involved in any tests.
