On Monday, President Trump resumed his daily coronavirus news briefings, just two days after tweeting that they were “not worth the time and effort” and hours after the White House officially canceled the planned appearance. While left-leaning articles highlight that Trump hates being seen as controlled by his staff, right-leaning articles highlight that Trump tweeted that his coronavirus briefings were not worth his time.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times highlights that during Trump’s briefing, he promoted his administration’s record on responding to the pandemic despite widespread criticism, in addition to blaming China for not stopping the virus in the first place. The article notes that Trump hates being seen as managed by his staff, and once he saw coverage reporting that his own aides thought he should be holding fewer briefings, Trump decided to host one on Monday anyways.

NPR published a centrist article reporting that while Americans are generally skeptical of too much government intervention, they want more during the coronavirus pandemic, as this is when the government is called upon to fill the gaps that individuals and private industry can’t. However, Trump’s messages have been mixed, and according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, most Americans don’t trust what Trump says.

A right-leaning article by New York Post highlights that Trump canceled his near-nightly coronavirus press briefing, tweeting that the appearances are “not worth the time and effort!” Trump also tweeted, “What is the purpose of having White House News Conferences when the Lamestream Media asks nothing but hostile questions & then refuses to report the truth or facts accurately.”
