On Friday, President Trump accused Twitter of unfairly targeting him and other Republicans, hours after Twitter said one of Trump’s tweets overnight violated the company’s policies by glorifying violence. While left-leaning articles question why Trump has never been punished for pushing false statements on social media, right-leaning articles highlight Trump’s comment that Twitter is doing nothing about the propaganda being put out by the Radical Left Democrat Party.
CNN published a left-leaning article questioning why Trump has been allowed to push a number of false statements via Twitter (and Facebook) without ever once being punished for doing so. The article insinuates that social media giants are lawless and dangerous, as they were created initially to connect people and make money.
A centrist article by The Hill reports that Trump’s battle with Twitter escalated since Tuesday when Twitter added a fact-check label to one of the president’s tweets on mail-in voting. As the Trump administration moved forward with an executive order Thursday aimed at limiting legal protections enjoyed by social media companies, Twitter has added fact-checking labels to hundreds of tweets, including one from a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson who had claimed the novel coronavirus may have been brought to China by a U.S. military member.
A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that President Trump fired back at Twitter on Friday, stating that “Twitter is doing nothing about all of the lies & propaganda being put out by China or the Radical Left Democrat Party.” Twitter said Trump’s comments had racial undertones, and the term “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” can be traced back to a threat to black protestors during the civil rights movement.
