On Monday, President Donald Trump called governors on a phone call that they are “weak” and need to use force to “dominate” riots. While left-leaning articles highlight that Trump told governors they “have to use the military,” right-leaning articles highlight that former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign staff is getting “anarchists out of jail.”
A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that Trump told the governors that “you have to use the military” and mused about the Occupy Wall Street movement, calling it a “disgrace” that it was ended by governors. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) challenged Trump on his rhetoric after the president derided the governors early in the call, telling them that “most of you are weak.”
USA Today published a centrist article reporting that Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer called the phone call “deeply disturbing.” Republican governor Charlie Baker also joined the criticism, stating that the President’s words are “not what we need in Boston.”
A left-leaning article by Fox News reports that President Trump alleged Biden’s campaign staff is helping to get “anarchists out of jail.” Biden also called protests “an utterly American response,” saying such actions were “right and necessary.”
