2 million voters have already cast a ballot for the Georgia runoff races, which will determine whether Democrats or Republicans take control of the U.S. Senate in the upcoming session. While left-leaning articles highlight that Black, Hispanic, and Asian American Georgians are making up increasing segments of the state’s registered voters rolls, right-leaning articles highlight that in order to carry the state, both parties will need to spend heavily to maintain relevance in an increasingly expensive race.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that for Democrats to win control of the Senate, Georgia’s Black communities and smaller Hispanic and Asian communities would need to vote in the January 5th runoff election by history-making margins. Black, Hispanic, and Asian American Georgians are making up increasing segments of the state’s registered voters rolls.

Forbes published a centrist article reporting that according to the Georgia votes tracker, almost 2.1 million people have voted since early voting for the runoff began on December 14th. About 1.3 million people cast their runoff vote-in-person at polling locations and about 721,752 sent in a mail-in ballot.

A right-leaning article by New York Post highlights that the first race has incumbent Senator Kelly Loeffler facing off against Rev. Raphael Warnock, the senior pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church, while the second race pits Democrat Jon Ossoff against incumbent Senator David Perdue. In order to carry the state, both parties will need to spend heavily to maintain relevance in an increasingly expensive race.
