Georgia State Senator Nikema Williams has been chosen to replace the late Representative John Lewis in November. While left-leaning articles highlight that the committee overwhelmingly voted for Williams over several other candidates, right-leaning articles highlight that Williams was chosen from a list of five finalists.

CNN published a left-leaning article highlighting that the party’s executive committee overwhelmingly voted for Williams over several other candidates. Williams noted that she was arrested and taken out of the state Capitol “with zip ties on my hands” during a November 2018 protest over results of the close gubernatorial election.

USA Today published a centrist article reporting that the House of Representatives held a moment of silence on Monday to honor the life of John Lewis. On Monday morning, a black drape was installed above the door of his office and black ribbons were placed over plaques beside the door.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Williams was chosen from a list of five finalists, beating out state Representative Park Cannon, Georgia NAACP President James Woodall, and Atlanta city councilman Andre Dickens. She will face Republican Angela Stanton-King in November.
