Wisconsin is holding its presidential primaries and elections for state and local offices on Tuesday. While left-leaning articles highlight that Wisconsin’s election proceedings reflect the effort of Republicans to dilute the voting power of the state’s Democratic voters, right-leaning articles criticize Wisconsin Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ previous order to postpone the primary until June 9.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times highlights that Wisconsin’s Republican-dominated state legislature refused to entertain the Democratic governor’s request to mail absentee ballots to all voters or move the primary. The election proceeding on Tuesday is the latest example of what many in the state see as a decade-long effort by Wisconsin Republicans to dilute the voting power of the state’s Democratic and African American voters.

NPR published a centrist article reporting that polling places in Wisconsin were consolidated and modified to follow social distancing guidelines, and there’s expected to be a shortage of 7,000 poll workers due to the pandemic. The article also notes that Wisconsin voters played a large role in shaping the 2016 election, as Trump carried the state in the general election, turning Wisconsin red for the first time in over 30 years.

A right-leaning article by The Daily Caller highlights that Republicans called Evers’ executive order to postpone the primary until June 9 because of coronavirus concerns, an “unconstitutional overreach.” Former Vice President Joe Biden said in a virtual interview that in-person and mail-in-voting in Wisconsin should be done safely, despite the global pandemic.
