Governor Andrew Cuomo added Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, and Wisconsin to New York, New Jersey and Connecticut’s quarantine list. While left-leaning articles highlight that it is clear that many of the new cases in New York are a result of lack of compliance over July 4 weekend, right-leaning articles highlight that nearly half of the U.S. must quarantine if they go to New York.
The Washington Post published a left-leaning article reporting that Cuomo said in a news release that it’s clear “based on contact tracing that many of the new cases in New York are a result of a lack of compliance during the July 4 weekend.” If out-of-state travelers arriving in New York airports from the list of states do not comply to the mandatory quarantine, they will face a $2,000 fine.
The Hill published a centrist article reporting that the 22 states on the list either have a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a 7-day rolling average or a “10% or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average.” On Tuesday, Cuomo reported 912 new cases on the virus, compared to 12,274 at New York’s peak.
New York Post published a right-leaning article highlighting that nearly half of the U.S. must now quarantine if they go to the greater New York area. New York City’s positive test average is slightly lower than the average for positive tests statewide, which rests at 1.5 percent.
