On Tuesday, President Donald Trump’s administration agreed to rescind its controversial rule barring international students from living in the USA while taking fall classes online. While left-leaning articles highlight that a flurry of lawsuits were filed immediately after Trump’s controversial rule, right-leaning articles highlight that immigration restrictionists are disappointed at the ruling.
The Washington Post published a left-leaning article highlighting that a flurry of lawsuits were filed after Harvard’s legal actions. Tuesday’s decision was a relief to universities, as many international students pay full tuition.
USA Today published a centrist article reporting that the lawsuit was led by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, who sought an injunction to stop the rule from taking effect while the matter was litigated. Terry Hartle, senior vice president with the American Council on Education, said the new order will allow universities to open more quickly.
Fox News published a right-leaning article highlighting that immigration restrictionists expressed disappointment at the ruling, with the Federation of American Immigration Reform (FAIR) accusing the White House of buckling “under pressure.” FAIR said foreign students are more enticing to businesses than American college students struggling to find jobs.
