A new ABC News/Ipsos poll found that more than 75 percent of Americans are afraid of contracting the coronavirus, as the number of new COVID-19 cases surges. While left-leaning articles highlight that Vice President Mike Pence was pressed on the wisdom of holding campaign rallies, right-leaning articles highlight that former Vice President Joe Biden said he would require Americans wear masks nationwide.

A left-leaning article by CNN highlights that Pence was pressed twice on the wisdom of holding campaign rallies, as public health experts continue to warn against large public gatherings. On Friday, Pence said Americans have the right to choose to attend campaign rallies, as “the American people don’t forfeit our constitutional rights.”

The Hill published a centrist article reporting that in the ABC News/Ipsos poll, 76 percent of respondents said they were concerned about contracting the virus, which is an increase from 69 percent in the same survey on June 12. However, 90 percent of respondents said they were comfortable with going grocery shopping while wearing a mask and nearly 80 percent said they were OK with going into work.

The Washington Times published a right-leaning article reporting that former Vice President Joe Biden said he would require Americans wear masks nationwide if he were president. Further, the article notes that Russia has reported the lowest daily rise of new cases since April.
