On Monday, members of Congress in both parties demanded answers about reported bounties paid by Russian operatives to Afghan insurgents for targeting American troops. While left-leaning articles highlight that the Trump administration still has not responded, right-leaning articles highlight that White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is playing politics with the situation.

The Washington Post published a left-leaning article highlighting that three months after the New York Times first reported that a Russian military spy unit offered bounties to Taliban-linked fighters in Afghanistan, the Trump administration still has not responded. The article also provides a timeline of events between the United States and Russia, which includes Trump’s numerous statements that the United States has “a very good relationship with Russia.”

A centrist article by NPR highlights the two key questions surrounding this case: Are there any American troops who have been killed as a result of Russian-sponsored targeted action? Who knew what about reporting on these allegations that have flowed up from the operational level in Afghanistan? The article also reports that White House officials briefed a limited number of House Republicans on Monday, with no immediate explanation for how and why this particular group of lawmakers was chosen.

Fox News published a right-leaning article reporting that White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is “entirely off-base” for claiming that President Trump hasn’t been applying pressure on Russia. McEnany said that the only person “playing politics” with the matter is Nancy Pelosi.
