On Tuesday, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms criticized Georgia Governor Brian Kemp after he issued an executive order to mobilize the National Guard in Atlanta. While left-leaning articles highlight the events that have occurred in Atlanta in recent days right-leaning articles highlight that Bottoms tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Miami Herald published a left-leaning article highlighting that Atlanta Police Lt. Pete Malecki that police believe “numerous armed individuals” were present when Secoriea Turner was riding with her mother and another adult Saturday night near a Wendy’s and shot. Nikema Williams, a state senator and chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Georgia also called Kemp’s decision reckless.

The Hill published a centrist article reporting that although Bottoms acknowledged the growing distress in Atlanta, the city and officials at Georgia State Patrol never felt the “need for the National Guard to come in” to address the situation. The governor said the declaration to allow as many as 1,000 National Guard troops to be activated throughout the state came in response to “weeks of dramatically increased violent crime and property destruction” in Atlanta.

Fox News published a right-leaning article highlighting that on Monday, Bottoms announced she tested positive for the coronavirus despite not having symptoms. Bottoms blamed Atlanta’s surge in crime on a combination of coronavirus, police brutality, and President Trump.
