On Tuesday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that House Democrats and the White House reached a deal on the revised United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

A left-leaning article by The New York Times reports that the agreement offers Trump a crucial victory to promote on his campaign trail, and is one of Trump’s biggest legislative victories, which came less than an hour after Pelosi unveiled the articles of impeachment against him. The article reports that Democrats persuaded the White House to strengthen the deal’s enforcement provisions. In Mexico City, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador attended the signing agreement and called it “the first truly bipartisan agreement,” saying it was “nothing short of a miracle that we have all come together.”

A centrist article by NPR reports that Democrats endorsed the trade deal after winning stronger enforcement of labor and environmental provisions, which came after a final round of talks this weekend. The agreement also includes provisions for digital trade and incentives that would shift some automotive manufacturing from Mexico to the U.S. or Canada.

A right leaning article by The Daily Caller highlights that House Democrats praised President Trump’s USMCA, which the article describes as a bipartisan trade agreement that proponents think could benefit America’s farmers, ranchers, businesses, and workers. The article reports that once approved by Congress, the USMCA will help longstanding trade problems, because it gives American businesses more freedom to sell their goods and services throughout North America.
