On Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease expert, told members of Congress that he wouldn’t be surprised if the U.S. sees new cases of coronavirus rising to a level of 100,000 a day. While left-leaning articles highlight that Fauci said he’s not satisfied with the handling of the pandemic, right-leaning articles highlight that the U.S. needs to keep attention on a new strain of swine flu.
CNN published a left-leaning article reporting that when asked if the pandemic is under control, Fauci said, "I am not satisfied with what's going on.” Fauci also spoke of the across-the-board importance of wearing masks, specifically addressing the younger members of society.
NPR published a centrist article reporting that Fauci stated although he can't predict the ultimate number of infections and deaths related to the coronavirus, "it's going to be very disturbing." Fauci also said it is clear that some parts of the country skipped over guidelines for determining when to reopen.
A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Fauci warned that the U.S. needs to pay attention to a new strain of swine flu emerging from China that has the potential to become a pandemic. Fauci said that while the virus has not yet been shown to be infecting humans, it is exhibiting “reassortment capabilities.”
