On Wednesday, former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign released a raft of policy recommendations produced by allies and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. While left-leaning articles highlight that recommendations showcase Biden’s willingness to embrace some progressive aims, right-leaning articles highlight that the Republican National Committee mocked Biden-Sanders’ “unity” task force.
A left-leaning article by CNN highlights that while recommendations are largely based on the more moderate positions Biden advocated during the primary, they showcase Biden’s willingness to embrace some progressive aims. The recommendations emphasize three crises: the coronavirus pandemic, soaring unemployment and protests over police brutality and racial injustice.
NPR published a centrist article reporting that the policy document recommends that Biden commit to eliminating carbon pollution from power plants by 2035, fund universal prekindergarten across the country, and expand Social Security. Sanders hopes the document will get more progressives excited about the goals of a Biden administration.
A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Sanders predicted that Biden could become the “most progressive president” since Franklin D. Roosevelt. However, the Republican National Committee cast doubt on the level of effort involved in the task force.
