On Friday, the House Judiciary Committee approved two articles of impeachment against President Trump. While left-leaning articles focus on the decision to advance the two articles of impeachment, right-leaning articles highlight that Democrats narrowed the articles of impeachment.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times reports that over fierce Republican protests, the impeachment articles passed 23 to 17. The article states that public polls show the country split over impeachment, but Trump has been given data that suggests the issue has increased the intensity of support for him. Speaker Nancy Pelosi also weighed which lawmakers she should appoint as impeachment managers to prosecute the cases against the president in the Senate.

A centrist leaning article by NPR reports that Trump told reports after the vote that Democrats were “trivializing impeachment,” while Judiciary Committee Chairman Representative Jerrold Nadler said “Today is a solemn and sad day.” The article reports that throughout the day on Thursday and for part of Friday, committee members delivered partisan talking points supporting or opposing Trump’s impeachment, with Republicans offering several amendments that were rejected.

The Daily Caller ran a right-leaning article highlighting that Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel reasoned that Democrats may have kept the articles of impeachment against President Trump narrow to protect themselves. The article reports that the two articles of impeachment introduced Tuesday did not include Democrat talking points used throughout the impeachment inquiry, such as “quid pro quo.”
