On Wednesday afternoon, Senators voted to acquit President Trump on two articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. While left-leaning articles highlight Romney’s decision to vote to convict Trump, right-leaning articles focus on Trump’s acquittal.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that in an eight-minute address, Republican Sen. Mitt Romney stated he would vote to convict President Trump of abuse of power. While Democrats praised Romney, the president shared on Twitter a political opposition ad calling Romney “slick” and “a Democrat secret asset.”

NPR published a centrist article reporting that although it was a surprise that Romney voted to convict and remove Trump on Article I of impeachment, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said that her members knew going into the impeachment trial that their strategy was most likely going to result in a status quo. Pelosi still believes that Trump will continue to pose a danger, and like previous presidents who have been impeached then tried in the Senate, Trump survives to continue to govern.

A right-leaning article by The Daily Caller reports that on Tuesday, Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins announced she would vote to acquit Trump on both articles of impeachment against him. This announcement came after her and Romney previously broke with the party and voted for additional witnesses in the impeachment trial.
