President Trump delivered his State of the Union address on Tuesday night in front of a Congress that was set to acquit him on Wednesday. While left-leaning articles make note that Trump failed to mention impeachment in his address, right-leaning articles highlight Trump’s offensive against socialism.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times reports that Trump made no mention of the articles of impeachment during the address and instead claimed that the economy was setting records and that the American spirit had been renewed. Trump’s first point of order in his address focused on the economy, and Trump’s few legislative proposals included two pieces of potential health care legislation.

NPR wrote a centrist article reporting that Trump’s State of the Union address included surprising moments. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripped up a copy of the president’s speech, Trump awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to popular conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh, and the president surprised a military wife with the return of her soldier husband.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Trump went on the offensive against socialism and left-wing policies during his State of the Union address. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, condemned Pelosi’s decision to rip up her copy of Trump’s speech as soon as he concluded. Pelosi also refused to follow tradition and introduce Trump by saying it was her “distinct honor” to do so.
