On Tuesday night, President Trump delivered his third State of the Union address, which occurred the day before his Senate impeachment trial is scheduled to wrap up.
A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that Trump will be delivering his State of the Union under ideal conditions. He will be giving the State of the Union address less than 24 hours before the Senate is expected to acquit him and is not facing a clear Democratic challenger for the upcoming election. Furthermore, Trump won the Republican Iowa caucuses Monday and has rising approval ratings as impeachment comes to the end.
NPR published a centrist article annotating Trump’s State of the Union address. During the address, Trump bragged about his accomplishments on issues such as the economy and paid family leave, as well as had a surprise appearance by a soldier as his family was recognized for their sacrifice. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripped up a copy of Trump’s speech after the president finished speaking.
A right-leaning article by Fox News reports that notable guests will be at the House chamber for President Trump’s State of the Union Address. These guests include Uighur human rights activist Rushan Abbas, Hong Kong democracy activist Nathan Law, wife of murdered Capital Gazette journalist Andrea Chamblee, and Jeffrey Epstein accuser Courtney Wild.
