On Tuesday, President Trump said that the Republican Party would seek to pull its August nominating convention out of North Carolina. While left-leaning articles highlight North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s statement that it would be a danger to the nation’s current health situation to host a large convention, right-leaning articles highlight President Trump’s disapproval of Cooper’s canceling of the Convention.

The Washington Post published a left-leaning article highlighting that Cooper said given the uncertain health situation, a smaller event than what the GOP is planning “is a necessity.” However, because of contractual obligations with Charlotte, Republicans still expect to conduct much of the convention’s official business in North Carolina, such as voting on Trump’s formal nomination.

The centrist article by NPR highlights that Charlotte wants to be seen as a world-class city, as it hosted the Democratic National Convention in 2012 and submitted a bid on President Trump’s Republican National Convention this August. The article reports that the city already started buying police equipment to prepare for the RNC.

Fox News published a left-leaning article highlighting that President Trump tweeted that “North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and his representatives refuse to guarantee that we can have use of the Spectrum Arena.” Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel accused Cooper of “dragging his feet.”
