Eight states and Washington, D.C., held primaries on Tuesday. While left-leaning articles highlight that the results of Tuesday’s primaries include victories for candidates of color, right-leaning articles highlight that conservative congressman Steve King has been voted out of the House.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times highlights that the result of Tuesday’s primaries was a dramatic night for candidates of color, largely in Democratic primaries for Congress, state legislatures and city halls. Among these new elects include Ella Jones, Ferguson, Mo.,’s first African American mayor, and Claudette Williams, the first black woman to serve as Monroe County, Pa., chair.

NPR published a centrist article reporting that many voters had to wait for hours on Tuesday to cast ballots at limited polling sites in Washington, D.C. Pennsylvania, and Baltimore, largely because they did not receive the absentee ballots they had requested. Despite President Trump and others in the party’s complaints that mail-in voting is susceptible to fraud, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said there are many protections in place, such as signature matching, that prevent people from fraudulently voting by mail.

A right-leaning article by New York Post highlights that Iowa’s longtime incumbent conservative congressman Steve King has been voted out of the House. King’s career has been defined by his strong anti-immigration stance, and his belief that Western culture is superior to others.
