On Friday, President Donald Trump said the Senate Armed Services Committee’s chairman, James Inhofe, will not change the names of military bases. While left-leaning articles highlight that it is unlikely that removing this provision will be easy, right-leaning articles highlight that Inhofe is not a believer of “cancel culture.”
The Washington Post published a left-leaning article highlighting that it is unlikely that removing a provision already endorsed by both chambers of Congress will be easy. Defense bills must be reconciled in a conference process before the final compromise to Trump’s desk.
A centrist article by Reuters highlights that this week, the Senate and House of Representatives passed their own versions of the National Defense Authorization Act. which includes a provision for the names of Confederate generals to be removed from military facilities. While it is not clear that Inhofe could change the provision, congressional aides said there was no ban on such change if negotiators agreed.
Fox News published a right-leaning article highlighting that Trump tweeted that Inhofe is not a believer in ‘cancel culture.’ Trump has come out strong in defense of controversial statues in his bid for reelection.
